Children and Teen-agers at Trinity

Children and teen-agers are an important part of the Trinity family. Their presence is seen, felt and heard in most aspects of the life of the Parish. In a world where families are scattered, Trinity provides a comfortable place for all of us — old and young — to know people of all ages. Children meet and interact with members the age of their grandparents, or even older. Parents of children meet teens interested in baby-sitting opportunities. Older people can enjoy the exuberance and joy of the children.

At Worship

Children are always welcome at worship, and regularly take a direct part in the service. The 10:00 AM service on Sunday intentionally focuses on the children in several ways. The WoRM program (Sunday school) starts at 9:45 AM, and the children are welcomed into Church in the middle of the service. Father Mac always spends a few minutes talking to them about what they've done in class. During the Eucharistic prayer, Father Mac invites all of the children attending to join him around the altar. Most importantly, any baptized person, of any age, is welcome to receive Communion in the Episcopal Church. You'll often see very young children at the altar rail with other family members.

During the service, the acolytes are pre-teens or teen-agers. It's no surprise at Trinity to see a young member taking the offerings to the altar, or serving as an usher.

For those with children too young for the WoRM program, Trinity's nursery, staffed by volunteers, provides a safe place for the children to play while their parents attend church.

Although most people with children attend the 10:00 service, some children are also present (and welcome) at 8:00 AM.

During the Year

Throughout the year, special programs at Trinity involve our young people directly.

On several Sundays during the year, the Children's Choir provides us with music. The Bell Choir has both teen-age and adult members. We sometimes have high school music students who accompany the organist and choir.

On Holy Saturday, the day before Easter, Trinity sponsors an Easter egg hunt.

In May, Bishop Scruton will visit to confirm a group of teens (and a few adults) into the Episcopal Church.

In past years, we've sponsored a Vacation Bible School, either by ourselves or in conjunction with another church.

At the beginning of the school year, we hold the "Blessing of the Backpacks" to ask God's blessing on the upcoming year. The WoRM Program (Sunday school) starts at about the same time.

The Christmas Fair has a well-attended Children's Room with craft activities for the kids.

During Advent, St Nicholas comes to visit on a Sunday morning.

On Christmas Eve, the children present the Christmas Pageant, telling the story of Jesus' birth. For the past few years, the Children's Choir has provided all of the music for this service.

Programs for Children and Teens

The WoRM Program provides Christian education for our children from pre-K through grade six.

The Confirmation Class prepares teens and adults for confirmation when the Bishop visits. Generally, this class occurs every other year.

Trinity's Youth Group gives our teens a chance to get together for both fellowship and service. Recently, they raised money for Alagille Syndrome awareness, and took part in the Milford area CROP Walk.

The Children's Choir provides music several times a year. Trinity's acolytes are pre-teens and teens, and help Father Mac during the 10:00 service.
